Fourth Day

Last day of the walk. Breakfast was at 8 am with the usual eggs, bacon, sausage, and tomato and a cup of tea.

Breakfast
Breakfast finished…

We left the Fountain Hotel just before 9 am. The walk started off by crossing some fields and taking us towards Great Shunner Fell. A long climb to the summit of around 2/3 hours.

After crossing the fields we arrive at the open moorland to take us across Great Shenner Fell.

As we walked higher up the fell the clouds started to descend on us making a fine mist which covered us in droplets.

Walking in the clouds.

Now and again the clouds would clear letting us see the moorland.

The last hill to climb to reach the summit.

Enfin au sommet

At the top there is a cross of stones with a bench on each cross. This lets you sit down out of the wind, whatever the direction of the wind.

We stop to eat and drink at the summit. The sun comes out briefly, the vues from the top are magnificent.

We start our descent and head towards Keld. There are still several miles to go.

Finally we are not too far from the village of Keld.

Around 3:30 we arrived at the village of keld.

Le fin de march…

After arriving at Keld we found in the village hall, home made cakes and biscuits You You put £1 in a box and help yourself to a cup of tea or home made cakes. Dogs can go in as well. You have to wash the dishes after.

It is a great idea for walkers.

The last step of the way was to walk to the Yurt where we were staying the night.

This was our first walk of more than one day.

The ‘Herriot way’ is a great walk to do and lets you see some of the best of the Yorkshire countryside. We learnt a lot from the walk, on what to carry with us and what not to carry with us.
